JESUS on Persecution (Gigs 53, Mat 10)
JESUS returns home after a brilliant stint of itinerant ministry. He has displayed His authority over Diseases, Disaster, Demons and Death! Yet, when He returned home, He was downplayed and His own people didn't think that He could be divine, cos of the hardness of their hearts. Jesus then sets out to the neighbouring towns and villages to minister again. This time He sees the willingness of the multitudes to welcome the Kingdom by recognising His authority. So JESUS, in this episode - calls, commissions and empowers His disciples to be His extensions, going about proclaiming healing and delivering people from their bondages. Jesus on 'judging' (Gigs 39 - Mat 7)
Worry is not simply an innocuous concern over things that bother us! It could be much deeper and has several potential layers beneath waiting to erupt! Excessive worry leads to Fear, Excessive Fear leads to Anxiety, Excessive Anxiety leads to Discouragement, Excessive Discouragement can lead to a state of "helplessness, hopelessness & worthlessness" which forms the "Cognitive Triad" characterizing 'Depression.' Jesus' teaching on worry is not just a nice little suggestion for leading a 'care-free' life, but deep - very deep! Jesus is the help for the helpless! Jesus is the hope for the hopeless!! Jesus is the 'Only Worthy Saviour' that can add worth to the one feeling worthless!!! He's not just a Spiritual Saviour - He's a Holistic Saviour, saving us "Emotionally" too!!! "Teach us to pray!" seems a peculiar request by the disciples. Teach us to preach, teach us to teach, teach us to heal, or the like - in my mind seems like a pertinent request - for an itinerant-teacher-preacher-miracle worker! But Jesus must have been a "Man of prayer" that the disciples often witnessed, behind the scenes. Hence, perhaps the request to be taught this important practice, played out!
